Women’s Bazaar (Melike Hatun Bazaar)

Women’s Bazaar is one of the hidden gems of Konya. Although, it is located downtown, at the heart of the city, most visitors have no idea about this place.

Today, Women’s Bazaar has no female vendors. But back in the day, it used to be a spot where women sold their local goods on Sundays. It is notable that even in decades ago, women in Konya had an opportunity to support themselves economically.

The bazaar is also known as the Historic Melike Hatun Bazaar.

Why you should visit Women’s Bazaar

As you can see from the photos, this bazaar has quite an artistic and neat display of products. From a tourist’s perspective, it is a very unusual attraction.

You can also buy some local products like Konya’s molded cheese (highly recommended), dry snacks, or anything you wish.

Create your own local experience

Here’s a nice idea. You can get molded or any other type of cheese you like and go to a nearby simitçi (shops that sell Turkish style bagel and variety of pastry). There you can order tea, simit, and eat your cheese. That would be a very local and traditional experience.

Note that Konya molded cheese is a hard cheese. I also highly doubt that they would have lactose-free cheese options, in case you are lactose intolerant.

Best spots for photography

You can walk around the stalls and take photos of the products (don’t forget to ask the vendors for permission).

However, the best photography spot is anywhere on the third floor. Make sure you climb up and take photos of the bazaar. From there, the bazaar looks fascinating. It is a very beautiful view to see such a blend of vivid colors.
